Akira Muratsubaki is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Uozu in Toyama Prefecture. Born in Kurobe, Toyama, he graduated from Tohoku University's Faculty of Law in 1980 and subsequently joined the Toyama Prefectural Government. During his tenure at the prefecture, he held various administrative roles, including serving as the first director of the Regional Promotion Division and as the deputy director of the Koshi no Kuni Museum of Literature. He was first elected as Mayor of Uozu in 2016 and has since secured re-election, including an uncontested victory in 2024. His administration has focused on fiscal consolidation, successfully achieving financial targets ahead of schedule through the reduction of public facility costs and administrative expenses.
