Al Barlas is an American politician serving as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly for the 40th legislative district since 2024. Born in Pakistan, he is a Muslim American who previously served as the chairman of the Essex County Republican Committee starting in 2011 and as the Republican chair of the New Jersey Apportionment Commission. Barlas is employed as a co-administrator and director of marketing for the New Jersey Intergovernmental Insurance Fund. He is the first South Asian American Republican to serve in the New Jersey legislature.
