He served as a councillor for the Canton of Cayenne-southwest from 1998 to 2015 and held the position of President of the General Council of French Guiana from 2008 to 2015. Politically, he is a sympathizer of the Decolonization and Social Emancipation Movement (MDES). During his tenure, he gained significant attention for his efforts to unilaterally end the public remuneration of Catholic priests in French Guiana, a move that was later challenged by administrative courts.
