Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is an American politician and activist serving as the U.S. representative for New York's 14th congressional district since 2019. Rising to national prominence after defeating a long-term incumbent in the 2018 Democratic primary, she became the youngest woman ever elected to the United States Congress. A member of the Democratic Party and the Democratic Socialists of America, she is known for her progressive platform, which includes advocacy for the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and tuition-free public college. She is a prominent member of the informal congressional bloc known as the 'Squad'.
