André Carson is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Indiana's 7th congressional district since 2008. A member of the Democratic Party, he succeeded his grandmother, Julia Carson, following a special election. Before entering Congress, he served on the Indianapolis-Marion County City-County Council and worked in law enforcement and anti-terrorism roles. Carson is known for his focus on education, economic opportunity, and public safety, and he is the second Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress.
