Angie Motshekga is a South African politician and educator currently serving as the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans. A long-standing member of the African National Congress, she previously served as the Minister of Basic Education from 2009 to 2024, becoming the longest-serving education minister in the country's history. Before her national cabinet roles, she was a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and held various leadership positions within the ANC Women's League. Motshekga has also served as acting president of South Africa on multiple occasions.
