Barbara Sharief

Barbara Sharief is an American politician and nurse who has served as a member of the Florida Senate since 2024. Before her election to the state legislature, she had a long career in local government, serving as a Broward County commissioner from 2010 to 2021 and as the county's first African-American female mayor. A registered nurse by profession, she founded South Florida Pediatric Homecare, Inc. in 2001. Throughout her political career, Sharief has focused on issues such as financial assistance for constituents, healthcare regulation, and infrastructure development.
