Barry Hovis

Barry Hovis is an American politician serving as a member of the Missouri House of Representatives for the 146th District, a position he has held since 2019. Before entering the state legislature, he had a career in law enforcement, retiring as a lieutenant after 30 years of service with the Cape Girardeau Police Department. During his tenure in the House, he gained national attention in 2019 for using the phrase 'consensual rape' during an abortion debate, a comment he later stated was a misspoken attempt to describe 'he said-she said' situations.
