Belit Onay is a German politician who has served as the Mayor of Hannover since 2019. As a member of Alliance 90/The Greens, he made history as the first mayor of a German state capital with a migration background. Before his election as mayor, he served as a member of the Landtag of Lower Saxony from 2013 to 2019 and was a city councilor in Hannover. His political platform focuses on urban mobility, including the expansion of cycling infrastructure and public transport, as well as affordable housing and social equity.
