Bev Busson is a Canadian Senator and former police officer who made history as the first woman to serve as the commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), holding the position from 2006 to 2007. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she joined the RCMP in 1974 and rose through the ranks to serve in various leadership roles, including Deputy Commissioner for the Pacific Region. Appointed to the Senate of Canada in 2018 to represent British Columbia, Busson has been an active participant in legislative debates, notably supporting the use of the Emergencies Act during the 2022 Freedom Convoy protests in Ottawa. She holds a law degree from the University of British Columbia and has been recognized for her service with the Order of British Columbia and as a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.
