Bobby Joe Champion is an American attorney and politician currently serving as a member of the Minnesota Senate, representing the 59th district. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party, he holds the distinction of being the first African-American to serve as the president of the Minnesota Senate. Throughout his legislative career, Champion has focused on issues such as juvenile justice reform and economic development. Prior to his election to the Senate in 2012, he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives and worked as an assistant attorney general, as well as in various roles within the legal and arts sectors.
