Prior to his election, he worked as a federal prosecutor in the office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina from 2016 to 2023. A member of the Republican Party, Knott holds conservative positions, including support for gun rights, strict border security, and pro-life policies. He currently serves on the House Committees on Homeland Security, the Judiciary, and Transportation and Infrastructure.
