Brandon Johnson is an American politician and educator serving as the 57th mayor of Chicago since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served on the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 2018 to 2023. Before entering politics, Johnson worked as a social studies teacher in the Chicago Public Schools system and was an active organizer for the Chicago Teachers Union. Politically identified as a progressive, he has focused his mayoral administration on addressing homelessness, reforming education, and implementing police reform.
