Brenton Awa

Brenton Awa is an American politician and former television news anchor currently serving as a member of the Hawaii Senate, representing the 23rd district since 2022. As of 2024, he serves as the minority leader of the Hawaii Senate. Before entering politics, Awa had a career in broadcast journalism, working as a reporter and anchor for KITV. His legislative focus includes advocating for policies to restrict foreign land ownership in Hawaii and promoting local sustainability projects, such as community food tree planting. Awa is known for his unconventional approach, including his record of casting frequent 'no' votes on legislation.
