Before entering federal politics, she served as a neighborhood manager in Bochum and founded the outreach organization Medizinische Flüchtlingshilfe Bochum. Politically, she has navigated affiliations with The Left and Alliance 90/The Greens, eventually returning to The Left. She is also the author of the 2023 book 'Unsozialstaat Deutschland', which critiques the German welfare system.
