Carlos Guillermo Smith is an American politician serving as a member of the Florida Senate for the 17th district since 2024. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2022, where he became the first openly LGBTQ+ Latino elected to the Florida Legislature. Throughout his career, Smith has been a vocal advocate for progressive causes, including gun control, LGBTQ+ rights, and education funding. Before entering elected office, he worked as a lobbyist for Equality Florida and as a legislative aide.
