Prior to his election to the state legislature, Amato held various local offices, including serving as the mayor of Berkeley Township from 2012 to 2023 and as a member of the Berkeley Township Council. His career also includes service on the Berkeley Township and Central Regional boards of education. He is a graduate of Central Regional High School and attended Ocean County College.
