Catherine Anne Smith, Baroness Smith of Cluny, is a Scottish lawyer and life peer who has served as the Advocate General for Scotland since 2024. The daughter of former Labour Party leader John Smith, she built a distinguished legal career specializing in reparation and public law, becoming a Queen's Counsel in 2021. Before her appointment to the House of Lords, she served as a part-time sheriff and held various advisory roles, including counsel to the Investigatory Powers Tribunal and vice chair of Justice Scotland. She is also a co-founder and chair of the John Smith Centre for Public Service at the University of Glasgow.
