Ruth Jones is a British Labour Party politician serving as the Member of Parliament for Newport West and Islwyn since 2024. Previously, she represented Newport West from 2019 following a by-election. A former physiotherapist who worked within the National Health Service and served as a senior negotiating officer for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Jones has a background in trade unionism and served as president of the Wales TUC. In Parliament, she has held roles in the shadow Defra team and was elected Chair of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee in 2024. She describes herself as a socialist and has been active in environmental and social policy debates.
