Charlie Baum

Charlie Baum is an American politician and academic serving as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives for District 37 since 2018. A professor of economics at Middle Tennessee State University, he has taught at the institution since 1999 and previously chaired its Department of Economics and Finance. Baum gained national attention in 2023 as the sole Republican to vote against the expulsion of three Democratic lawmakers from the legislature, citing a desire to maintain decorum and respect the wishes of his constituents. Prior to his legislative service, he served as a Rutherford County commissioner for eight years.
