Before his election to the House of Commons, he worked as a mathematics teacher and served as a Harlow District Councillor from 2018 to 2024, where he also led the local Labour group. Throughout his political career, he has contested multiple elections, including bids for the Essex Police and Crime Commissioner and various parliamentary seats. In May 2026, he was appointed as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
