Claude Moraes is a British Labour Party politician and life peer who has served as a Member of the House of Lords since January 2025. Born in Aden and raised in Scotland, he previously served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for London from 1999 to 2020, where he chaired the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. A former director of the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants, Moraes is a recognized campaigner for human rights, data protection, and migration policy. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2020 for his services to human rights.
