Claudia Kauffman is an American politician serving as a member of the Washington State Senate, representing the 47th district. A member of the Democratic Party, she holds the distinction of being the first Native American woman of Nez Perce descent elected to the Washington State Senate. Kauffman previously served in the senate from 2007 to 2011 before returning to office in 2022. Throughout her career, she has remained active in public service and regional politics, including a 2017 campaign for Seattle Port Commissioner.
