Prior to his mayoral tenure, he served as the Member of Parliament for the riding of Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge from 2015 to 2019. During his time in the House of Commons, he chaired the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology and focused on issues such as affordable housing, homelessness, and youth employment. Before entering politics, Ruimy spent 27 years working in the food and beverage industry and operated a book cafe in Maple Ridge.
