David Speirs

David Speirs is a Scottish-Australian politician who served as a member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 2014 to 2026. A former leader of the South Australian Liberal Party and Leader of the Opposition from 2022 to 2024, he previously held the position of Minister for Environment and Water in the Marshall Ministry. During his ministerial tenure, he was noted for overseeing the establishment of Green Adelaide and implementing a ban on single-use plastics. Following his resignation as party leader in 2024 and subsequent legal issues, he stood as an independent candidate in the 2026 state election but was unsuccessful in retaining his seat.
