Dessie Ellis is an Irish politician and a member of Dáil Éireann for the Dublin North-West constituency, having served since the 2011 general election. Before entering constitutional politics, he was a member of the Provisional IRA and served a prison sentence in the 1980s. He began his political career as a Dublin City Councillor in 1999. A member of Sinn Féin, Ellis advocates for the abolition of local property taxes, the repeal of restrictive abortion laws, and the reform of the direct provision system for refugees.
