Edward D. Clere is an American politician serving as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives for the 72nd district, a position he has held since 2008. Originally a Republican, Clere transitioned to independent status in 2026 following his opposition to state redistricting efforts. Throughout his legislative career, he has been noted for his bipartisan approach, including his 2015 advocacy for needle exchange programs to combat an HIV outbreak in Scott County and his 2023 vote against legislation banning gender-affirming care for minors. He is an alumnus of Indiana University Southeast and has also pursued mayoral campaigns in New Albany.
