Eliza Manningham-Buller is a British peer and former intelligence officer who currently serves as a crossbench member of the House of Lords. She previously led the British Security Service (MI5) as Director General from 2002 to 2007, overseeing the agency's response to the 7 July 2005 London bombings. Since entering the House of Lords in 2008, she has been a prominent voice on national security and civil liberties, notably opposing the extension of pre-charge detention for terrorist suspects. She has also served as chair of the Wellcome Trust and the Conduct Committee of the House of Lords.
