Emiko Shidara

Emiko Shidara is a Japanese politician and dentist currently serving as the Mayor of Chikusei City in Ibaraki Prefecture. Born in 1976 in what is now Chikusei, she holds a degree from Tsurumi University School of Dental Medicine and previously worked as a clinical trainee and research assistant. Shidara began her political career in 2010, serving four consecutive terms as a member of the Ibaraki Prefectural Assembly, where she was affiliated with the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party for the People, and later the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan. She resigned from the assembly in 2025 to successfully run for mayor, winning her first term in a closely contested election.
