Fatih Erbakan is a Turkish politician and the founder and leader of the New Welfare Party (YRP). Born in Ankara, he is the son of former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan. An electrical engineer by training with a doctorate in management, he previously served in the Virtue and Felicity parties before establishing the YRP in 2018. Erbakan is known for his conservative Islamist political positions, including opposition to LGBT rights, criticism of the theory of evolution in schools, and skepticism toward COVID-19 vaccines. He has served as a member of the Grand National Assembly and has announced his candidacy for the 2028 Turkish presidential election.
