Florian Freund

Profile

Florian Freund is a German politician and the current Mayor of Augsburg. Born in Würzburg, he holds a doctorate in economics and previously worked in regional planning and economic development for the government of Swabia. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), he served on the Augsburg City Council starting in 2014 and led the SPD faction there from 2018. He was elected Mayor in March 2026, ending a long period of CSU leadership in the city, and assumed office in May 2026.
