François Ruffin is a French politician, journalist, and filmmaker who has served as a member of the French National Assembly for the Somme's 1st constituency since 2017. Before entering politics, he founded the satirical quarterly Fakir and gained national prominence for his 2016 documentary film Merci patron!, which critiqued corporate outsourcing. A former figure in the Nuit debout movement, Ruffin identifies as a social democrat and a "revolutionary-reformist," advocating for economic protectionism, degrowth, and the convergence of working-class and environmentalist struggles. He founded the political movement Picardie Debout, later renamed Debout !, and has been a vocal critic of neoliberal policies and the political establishment.
