Fumitoshi Kawano is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Bungo-ono in Oita Prefecture. Born in 1959 in the former Mie Town, he graduated from Tokyo Keizai University in 1981 and spent many years working as a civil servant for the local municipal government, including serving as the head of the Social Education Division. He was first elected mayor in 2017 and has since secured re-election, most recently winning a third term in 2025. During his tenure, he has focused on local development and social policy, notably introducing the Bungo-ono City Partnership and Family-ship Oath System in 2022 to support LGBTQ+ couples and their families.
