A member of the Democratic Party, he previously worked as a software engineer at Microsoft and as a community organizer. During his tenure as Lieutenant Governor, he has focused on criminal justice reform, chairing the Michigan Joint Task Force on Jail and Pretrial Incarceration, and addressing racial disparities in public health as the chair of the Michigan Coronavirus Task Force on Racial Disparities.
