Gary Winfield is an American politician serving as a member of the Connecticut State Senate, representing the 10th district. Previously, he served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014, where he was a key advocate for the abolition of the death penalty and the passage of the TRUST Act. As a legislator, he has focused on progressive issues including police accountability, prosecutorial transparency, and protections for transgender citizens. He is notably the first non-attorney to serve as co-chair of the state’s Judiciary Committee. Before his political career, Winfield served in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Electrician's Mate.
