Born and raised in Summerville, South Carolina, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Southern Evangelical Seminary and a Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center. Before entering politics, Gatch worked as a pastor for seven years and later established his own law firm. He assumed office in the state legislature in November 2020 after winning the general election.
