Giuseppe Marchionna is an Italian politician and economist currently serving as the Mayor of Brindisi. First elected to the position in 1990, he gained prominence for his management of the 1991 Albanian refugee crisis. After a career in public administration, local development consulting, and serving as Deputy Mayor from 2014 to 2015, he returned to the office of Mayor in 2023. Marchionna is also an author and academic, holding a degree in Philosophy and having published numerous works on local development, communication, and fiction.
