Gustavo Petro

Gustavo Petro is a Colombian politician and economist who has served as the president of Colombia since 2022, recognized as the country's first left-wing president in recent history. A former member of the M-19 guerrilla movement in his youth, he later transitioned into institutional politics, serving as a congressman, senator, and mayor of Bogotá. As president, he has pursued a progressive domestic agenda focused on labor protections, land redistribution, and social spending while advancing a peace policy aimed at demobilizing armed groups.
