Jiro Hata is a Japanese politician serving as a member of the House of Councillors. Born in Tokyo, he is the son of former Prime Minister Tsutomu Hata and the brother of the late politician Yuichiro Hata. Before entering politics, he worked as a private secretary and managed a business consulting firm. He was first elected to the House of Councillors in a 2021 by-election following his brother's death and was re-elected in 2025. Hata supports constitutional reform regarding emergency clauses and local autonomy, advocates for the eventual phase-out of nuclear power, and supports selective separate surnames for married couples.
