Helene Hayman, Baroness Hayman is a British politician and life peer who served as the first Lord Speaker of the House of Lords from 2006 to 2011. A member of the Labour Party, she previously served as the Member of Parliament for Welwyn and Hatfield from 1974 to 1979, becoming the youngest MP at the time of her election. Throughout her career, she has been deeply involved in health policy, serving on various medical ethics committees and as chair of Cancer Research UK. She was appointed a Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in 2012 for her services to Parliament.
