Hirofumi Yaegashi is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Kitakami in Iwate Prefecture. Born in Kitakami in 1964, he graduated from Waseda University's School of Political Science and Economics. Before entering politics, he had a long career as a local government official in the Iwate Prefectural Government, serving in various departments including regional promotion, industrial economic exchange, and the prefectural assembly secretariat. He retired from the prefectural government in 2022 and was elected unopposed as the fourth Mayor of Kitakami in April 2023.
