Hiroyuki Uchida is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture. A former bureaucrat at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), he played a significant role in educational reforms and disaster recovery efforts following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. After leaving the ministry, he served as an executive at Fukushima University and director of the Regional Revitalization Strategy Research Institute at Higashi Nippon International University. Elected mayor in 2021 and re-elected in 2025, Uchida has focused his administration on disaster prevention, local medical care improvement, and public transportation sustainability.
