Akihito Uesada is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Matsue in Shimane Prefecture. Born in Matsue, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at Kyushu University in 1995. Before entering politics, he had a distinguished career at the Development Bank of Japan (now the Development Bank of Japan Inc.), where he held various roles including head of the Matsue office and CEO of the bank's American subsidiary. He was first elected as Mayor of Matsue in April 2021 with the support of the Liberal Democratic Party, Komeito, and the Democratic Party for the People, and was re-elected to a second term in April 2025.
