Ineke van Gent

Ineke van Gent is a Dutch politician who served as the Mayor of Schiermonnikoog from 2017 to 2025. Previously, she was a member of the House of Representatives for the GreenLeft party between 1998 and 2012, where she focused on social policy, employment, animal welfare, and public transport. Throughout her career, she has been known for her republican convictions and independent voting record, often challenging party lines on issues such as the monarchy and military interventions. Following her parliamentary career, she held positions at the Dutch Railways and served as an informateur for the municipality of Groningen. In 2026, she was appointed as a board member of the Institute for Mining Damage Groningen.
