Michihiro Ishibashi is a Japanese politician and labor activist currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan. Born in Yasugi, Shimane Prefecture, he holds a master's degree in political science from the University of Alabama. Before entering politics, he had an extensive career in labor relations, including roles with the All Japan Telecommunications Workers' Union and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Italy and the Philippines. Since his first election to the House of Councillors in 2010, he has focused on labor rights, social welfare, and international cooperation. He is known for his opposition to the exercise of collective self-defense and his support for gender equality initiatives, including the introduction of selective separate surnames for married couples.
