J. D. Ford is an American politician currently serving as a member of the Indiana Senate, representing District 29. Elected in 2018, he holds the distinction of being the first openly LGBT person elected to the Indiana state legislature. Ford earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and political science from the University of Akron and a master's degree in education from Purdue University Northwest. In addition to his legislative duties, he has served as the Caucus Chair of the Indiana Senate Democrats and is the Democratic nominee for Indiana's 5th congressional district in the 2026 election.
