Jack McConnell is a British politician who has served as a life peer in the House of Lords since 2010. He previously served as the First Minister of Scotland from 2001 to 2007 and as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for Motherwell and Wishaw from 1999 to 2011. A former mathematics teacher, McConnell played a significant role in the Scottish devolution process and the establishment of the Scottish Parliament. During his tenure as First Minister, he implemented a public smoking ban and successfully secured the bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
