James Asser

James Asser is a British politician serving as the Member of Parliament for West Ham and Beckton since July 2024. Before his election to the House of Commons, he had a significant career in local government, serving as a councillor in the London Borough of Newham from 2018 to 2024, where he held roles as Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainable Transport and Deputy Mayor. Asser also served as the chair of the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party from 2023 to 2024 and was previously the vice-president of welfare for the National Union of Students. He is known for his advocacy within the LGBT+ community, having served as co-chair of LGBT+ Labour.
