James M. Murphy is an American state legislator who has served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 2001, representing the 4th Norfolk district. A resident of Weymouth, he has held numerous leadership roles within the legislature, including serving as the Chairman of the Financial Services Committee since 2018. Prior to his legislative career, Murphy worked as a judicial law clerk for the Massachusetts Appeals Court and as an Assistant District Attorney for Suffolk County, where he prosecuted criminal cases throughout Boston. He is an alumnus of Boston College High School, Merrimack College, and Suffolk University Law School.
