A member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), he previously served as the mayor of Heiligenhaus from 2004 to 2017 and as a state secretary in the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry for Home Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Construction and Equality from 2017 to 2022. Beyond his parliamentary duties, he is active in fire service leadership and holds various academic teaching positions.
